“Gutierrez is right to support Rubio’s efforts because his bottom line is that it would stop the deportations and it does not exclude these immigrants from alternative citizenship pathways, making it substantively similar to the original Dream Act, but with important political nuances.”

Perhaps Ms. Inclan made a mistake in her answer about Mitt Romney’s stance on immigration, but she certainly personified it, and for that she should not be punished. Maybe if Latinos were more integrated into the Party, these mistakes wouldn’t happen. Inclan’s response was not the problem, but the symptom of a decades long effort to shut Latinos out. The GOP is the real problem, not Bettina Inclan.

Some in the GOP have long seen Hispanics as a source for power and growth, just as Ronald Reagan did.  Perhaps you may not like their policies, but then that would be a refreshing debate to have, instead of being distracted by fools like Russell Pearce and Joe Arpaio.

Easy enough to predict, I suppose. The Democrats have Latinos cornered and if you are Latino and did not see Russell Pearce’s testimony defending Arizona’s infamous anti-Latino law, SB1070, you’ll see why.  What a grumpy old man. The aesthetic leader of the GOP, the grumpy old party.

Stephen Nuño, a professor of political science at Northern Arizona University, explains that “George Lopez is well liked and widely recognized, as is Eva Longoria. President Obama’s immigration policy does present problems, but Latinos like Lopez and Longoria are sure to follow the Democrat’s messaging, blaming Republican intransigence on the issue.”

“It’s not only convenient to take advantage of current partisan loyalties, but it’s also largely true. “

That complicates the issue for folks like Rubio. On the one hand, he is being asked to get the Latino vote, while on the other hand, he must maintain ideological purity with its Leave it to Beaver nostalgic base.

“I’m not that big of a fan of the NRA because they care less about good policy and more about the free flow of firearms,” says NBC Latino contributor and Arizona resident Stephen Nuño, who owns several guns and says he is very protective of the right to bear arms.  He adds that lobbies like the NRA which advocate gun safety should know better than supporting laws such as “Stand Your Ground.”

Longoria and Vergara are both beautiful women.  Hardly resistible. I am sure the money, too, is difficult for them to resist.  But their roles are detrimental to Latinas and to society as a whole when they unwittingly play into the narrative of the Latino Threat. As the father of three girls, their message is loud and clear that Latina sexuality is yet another commodity that can be leveraged for fame and fortune. They should be smarter than that.
